Stuart MacRae is a composer and a Senior Research Fellow at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. His work explores themes of humanity in/as nature, the use of language through the singing voice, and mythology. His music brings emotion to the fore, and spans a wide variety of genres, including opera, instrumental, vocal and electroacoustic music. Stuart has been commissioned by the BBC Proms, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Royal Opera House, and his music is performed and broadcast internationally. His recent opera Anthropocene, commissioned by Scottish Opera and written with librettist Louise Welsh, will receive new productions in Bielefeld, Germany (2023) and Salzburg, Austria (2024).
